Why theirs know knead for roof reading any moor!

Or why every business needs a proofreader

No matter how proficient you may be in your use of written language, it can be extremely difficult to proofread your own work.  It's inevitable that we become over-familiar with it, making it so easy for inaccuracies, typing errors, and inconsistencies to go unnoticed.

A proofreader provides a qualified, fresh pair of eyes at that crucial final stage before a document goes to print or a website goes live.  They carefully examine any finalised text you've written to find and correct the typos and errors of spelling, punctuation or grammar.  They will also look for any glaring inconsistencies within the content and layout of your documentation too.  Making sure errors have been eliminated can save you from substantial re-printing costs and frustrating delays.

Perhaps more importantly, typing errors, confusing inconsistencies and mistakes with spelling or grammar can quickly damage the positive professional image a company or individual is attempting to convey.  Many people make initial assumptions about professional competence based upon the standard of the written material presented to them.  You must always proofread adequately before you send material out to your target market – proofread as though your business depends on it.  And if you don't have the time to try and do it yourself, get someone who can do it for you.

How do I choose a proofreader?

A good proofreader can demonstrate an affinity for language with a strong background in working in areas of language or linguistics.
Importantly, always make sure the proofreader you choose has an appropriate proofreading qualification from a reputable training agency.  Proofreading is an exact science! Qualifications are not awarded lightly.  Very high standards are required – as outlined above there can be a lot at stake if you fail to spot errors and when proofreading work you are always aiming for perfection.  Many unqualified proofreaders rely on some ability and tools such as Spell Checker. If you've used Spell Checker yourself, you will probably know there are many mistakes it may not pick up on.

So if you value your professional image - invest in professional proofreading services.
